The Best and Easiest Healthy Basbousa (Semolina Cake) (Namoura)
Basbousa (Namoura) is from the most beloved desserts in the Middle East. It has different names and minor variations in each country, but it is always delicious. Basbousa is quite easy to prepare and only requires a few ingredients. I prepared an incredible healthy version that will make you drool. For a vegan version, you can easily swap the honey with maple syrup. Enjoy it guilt free with your favorite hot drink!

Materials
Basbousa
- 1 cup Semolina flour
- 2 tbsp Coconut flour
- ¾ cup Coconut milk
- 1 tbsp Honey
- 1 tbsp Coconut oil
- 16 g Baking Powder
- ⅛ tsp Salt
- Vanilla Extract
The Syrup
- ½ cup Honey
- ½ cup Hot water
- Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200C.Prepare your ingredients.
- In a small saucepan, add coconut milk, coconut oil and 1tbsp honey. Heat over medium heat until warm.
- Meanwhile, in a bowl mix semolina flour, coconut flour, baking powder, salt.
- Brush an oven dish with coconut oil.
- Add Vanilla extract to the warm milk mixture. Then add the mixture onto the dry ingredients, mixing well.
- Transfer the mixture to the oven dish.Spread the basbousa mixture evenly.
- Decorate with almonds.Bake in preheated oven until golden (around 30minutes)
- Meanwhile prepare the syrup by adding 1/2 cup of hot water onto 1/2 cup of honey, and add vanilla. Stir well until well combined.
- Pour the warm syrup evenly onto the basbousa while it is still hot.
- Cover for at least an hour.
- Serve and enjoy with your favourite hot drink 😋.

Just wondering what’s the measurement for the vanilla extract in both the mixture in and the syrup?

You’ll need about 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract in the mixture and another 1/2 – 1 teaspoon in the syrup.
