The Tastiest Skinny Chicken Shawerma Skewer
Chicken shawerma, döner kebab, or gyros, whatever it is called in each part of the world, everywhere people agree it is from the most delicious street foods.
The common among the three is the vertical rotisserie used in cooking the meat. The difference lies in the marinades, sauces and toppings.
I prepared this recipe by stacking overnight yogurt-marinated chicken breasts in a skewer which is then broiled to perfection. This resulted in the most tender and flavorful bits of chicken. Finally, you can mix with grilled veggies & enjoy it on its own or wrap in a tortilla bread with your favorite toppings. Either way, I guarantee you will be drooling over this light main course!

Chicken Marinade
- 1 kg Skinless chicken breasts thinly sliced
- 180 g Low fat Greek yogurt
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black pepper
- ½ tsp Garlic
- ½ tsp Cinnamon
- ½ tsp Ginger
- ½ tsp Coriander
- ½ tsp Paprika
- ¼ tsp Chili powder
- 1 tsp Basil
- 1 tsp Thyme
- 1 tsp Olive oil
Veggies
- 3 Bell peppers (green, yellow and red) chopped
- 1 Onion chopped
- 1 tbsp Olive oil
- Salt
- Pepper
- Thyme
Tortilla Wraps
- 6 Whole wheat tortillas
- ¼ cup Low fat Cheddar cheese shredded
- Homemade garlic sauce optional
- Pickled jalapenos optional
Instructions
- Place the chicken breasts in a ziplock bag. Add all the marinade ingredients, and mix well.Leave overnight in fridge.
- Preheat oven to 200°C.Prepare your ingredients.
- In a baking sheet, place two onions and insert skewers into them.
- Stack the chicken slices on the skewers.
- Finish by placing a tomato on top of the skewers to secure the stacked chicken.
- Brush the chicken slices with olive oil.Drizzle the chopped veggie with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt, pepper and thyme.place onto the baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for around 45 minutes until the chicken is cooked and slightly charred.
- Serve and enjoy!
- Prepare your tortilla wrap ingredients.
- On one edge of the tortilla place a bit of the Homemade garlic sauce, followed by the chicken slices mixed with veggies. Then sprinkle the shredded cheese and jalapenos on top.
